most of the time you if it's take out you compain, tell everyone how bad the food is or was and never go back there and believe it or not - they lose lots of business this way.
Now if its a sit and eat arrangment you not only take it back but depending on how the situation is handled you actually love the place forgive the error made on your food and tell everyone how great the food is and also how much you love the staff and the place you dine at!
so you know it can go and be both ways! To answer your question you should always take it back for it could not only harm you but many! And this is not to say that they served bad food on purpose or that they knew the food was bad!

I have to. I don't have much cash to go out to eat often, so when I do, I'd like it to be good. My standards are reasonable though. I won't give the staff a hard time either. I found bacon in my coffee once, so I just politely told the waitress, then left. Sometimes I order toast and it gets to my table just blackened...and back it has to go.

I've worked in food service, and I never serve anything I wouldn't eat myself. After all, the restaurant provides the food, and the customer provides my tip!

I'm paying for service and a special treat by eating out. I expect to be treated as such. With this thought in mind I have no problem sending food back. The cook/chef should also think of the food he /she prepares in the same manner and take a little pride in what they do.

Actually, I don't. Unless its just totally disgusting I will just let it go. I've been in customer service a long time and I know how hard the waiters and waitresses work for their money. But that's just how I am. My brother in law on the other hand will send everything back and be as a sshole about it. Embarassing......I don't go to dinner with them anymore because of it. Always looking for a free meal

If the food is uneatable then yes it goes back every time, if it is just not to my particular liking then I may put up with it, but most likely not! I figure what the heck, I'm the customer, I gave instructions on what I wanted and I'm paying for it, I should like it and I should not feel like I should have to eat something I don't like and get the joy of paying for it too!

Yes, being a chef, italian and growing up in the environment of food and restaurants, I expect my food to be good quality how i would make it for someone.

No - I'm pathetic about this kind of thing..

I'll do anything to avoid confrontation (except with my b/f).

I'll just eat a few mouthfuls then leave it and if the waiter/waitress asks why I've left it, I won't even tell them it's bad, I'll just say I wasn't hungry.

For most things, I'm assertive, but I can't stand stuff like this so I ignore it!

,-)

you better send it back that way you don't pay for what you didn't get and you have helped the restaurant to improve their services

Yes and I go to the manager to complain and leave. They are not getting a chance to spit or whatever else to my food.
