why does my friends computer keep resetting the date to the 1st january 2001?

the cmos battery is probably dead its about the size of a nickle radio shack has them for about 4 bucks

Remove ur mother board cover and replace the lithim battery installed on the mother board....it should be silver, thin and round in shape
