I was walking through my local supermarket last month, and to my surprise, Christmas had already arrived. So there goes the excitement of Christmas as i then realised it was over 2 months till the day. Christmas is now just one big mess, the excitement is over before it begins and it drags on for to long. Who thinks christmas should be kept to just December? Forget about the companies making the money, and think about the spirit of Christams. Surely this will make it much more exciting

The cost of Christmas has to be spread over a couple of months these days. I am all for stores putting out their displays now and their three-fo-two offers because this fdoes not discriminate aginst those people who can't afford to buy everything in December.

I think, however, that people have forgotten both the meaning of the festival and also the true spirit of Cristmas as a time for peace on earth and goodwill to all men (and women).

It would be different if I could step into christmas back to 1973 when I appeared in the school play which was A Christmas Carol, better known as Scrooge, only I played the part of Tiny Tim back then, now it's all so commercialised, I don't wish it could be Xmas every day.

XMAS - STICK IT its nothing but commercial genocide that causes more people to spend beyond their means and end up unnecessarily in debt. If it were up to me I would ban all mention of Xmas before December and also all advertising or merchandising in shops until December.

Some people have a life outside of Xmas that is strangled by infantile pressure to conform and it stinks.

There is no sense anymore - the excitement has been diluted by XMAS day and most who are honest are glad when its all over so they can start repaying their credit cards.

I hope all the get rich quick multinational stores are satisfied when families are torn apart by debt and depression - even divorce and suicide due to their persistence to squeeze every last penny and breath out of Innocent punters forced to keep the kids happy.

Merry Xmas Mr multinational - see you in hell

I agree. Retailers are trying to make more money. The silly thing is, we are all aware of when christmas is, so with or without the early decorations, it makes no differance. It makes it hard for the kids...it's such a long wait for them, and it makes it hard for the parents. My 5 year old is asking me how many sleeps. Though, I did buy christmas cards last week for him to give his friends at pre-school. He finishes up mid December and it will probably take him that long to write out 20 cards!!

It's all about greed and big multinationals making lots of money. Every year we are pressured into spending more on friends and family. Trying to find more and more to buy our kids. Most of the crap they get never gets played with again. One thing we do in our house is open presents over several days making it last longer instead of one mad scrum on Christmas morning. But you are right i think the true meaning of Christmas has been lost. Getting back to the true values of Christmas, going to mass on Christmas eve, spending time with family, Oh and some snow please would all help to make Christmas what it should be.

I agree. Xmas should be kept just for December. If people want to start their shopping earlier it's up to them, but shops should only advertise Xmas in December. By the Xmas season you are bored and sick of it, and don't enjoy it at all, you just want to get over with it.
However, the Xmas spirit should be present everyday of the year... and that's the only thing that does last, not even for one day.

It would be much better if all the shops left it until say 5th December - giving 20 days to get us all excited and the kids hyper! - it will never happen though! Nice thought though eh?

I totally agree and I was quite surprised to hear that Harrods did it's Christmas display in late September!!!

Christmas is now about shopping than anything else, ok it is nice to get presents etc but to me it seems one big money making scheme now.

christmas is a time at the end of the year when for what regardless reasons you can unwind at the end of the year and relax with your loved ones and reflect on the years events.
