Hey all, thanks for the responses but the thing is we actually have no fruit left in the office at all, and we have been tidying our rubbish all the time, and we have no plants at the moment...

don't let fruit/veggies get overripe or plants becomeuntidy (dropped leafs etc).
cut off the food source and they will die off.

There's obviously something there that's keeping them fed. Get rid of the food and the flies will go.

You can also kill them using ordinary fly spray, but you'll need to fumigate the whole office. That will involve removing any food, drink and cups, and covering up the water cooler and coffee machine. The last person to leave should take a deep breath and give the office a thorough spray before leaving.

Ho Ho Ho little twinklet! guess what we used in biology for dna and other specimens, the fruit fly, do you know why, they breed and mature into adults something like every 17 days. So multiply this times 17 every two weeks and wow! talk about multitude.

First get rid of every ones fruit, that's where they're coming from young lady. Than spray, thankfully they're very vulnerable to malathion and other pesticides. The next time someone brings something to eat in the office like a banana make sure they eat it and discard the peel. Wrap all eatables or toss them, get rid of the garbage.

These little guys are just like me, they like sugar! They eat the sugar from the fruit. There must be a food supply in your office. Find the food supply, a fruit bowl, a rotting piece of fruit behind the fridge, spilled OJ on the counter, and remove it. Use hot soapy water and then follow the rinse with a light bleach solution of one capful per quart of water. Good luck.

everyone's saying remove the fruit, but I found this didn't work. The flies will wait until the next time there is food around then they will all appear again. I think they just sat on the ceiling waiting. I'm sure they are very intelligent!

Make sure your office pot plants are repotted regularly - they live in the soil and will breed under warm, humid conditions. And make sure no-one leaves fruit or fruit peelings around in the bins or desks at night.

Get a near empty jar of honey, pour in a little hot water, swish it around until the honey melts into the water, pierce the lid with some little holes, place some ware warm in the office, and that will attract them, they will go in but can't get out again, the little bug ger's will drown. ;¬)

When i was a lad my mum used get a small block of sulphur
from our chemist/ drug store, then when our house was
empty of people she would light block with a match, all windows and doors being shut, this would kill every creepy crawly and fly
going. When it burnt out we returned. Then mum would hang those fly catchers up from the ceiling, the ones you pulled out and were very sticky that caught any more invading flys.
These can still be purchased in UK plus fly sprays.
