I go through phases of happiness, and complete and utter depression, which I am in right now, where I feel like I'm the lowest of the low.... I don;t ANY drugs, I just always feel like this, like I have 5 weeks of complete happiness, and then 1 or 2 of complete despair. I have nothing to grumble about either, good looks, fantastic looking girlfriend, fast car, nice place to live, six figure salary, and I'm only 26 .... but right now, I just feel like throwing myself off a bridge, why do you think this is? I know in a weeks time I will be on top of the world, but right now I tink I'm ugly, my girlfriend will dump me, is too good for me, I'll lose my job - I'm serious, I'm wondering if this is some condition I have?

Beware of those that readily diagnose you as bipolar. Although this is a very real condition, as with absolutely everything, there is a scale. Everyone is bipolar to some degree, ranging from not at all to extremely.

I don't know how extreme your moods are and whether you require medicinal or your own interventions. My rule of thumb would be:

If your lows take you too far towards suicide (i.e. actually thinking realistically about doing it), then your situation is interfering with your life in a way that is unacceptable. In which case you might think about taking medication.

In my experience deeper depressions follow periods when I've been too hyper - doing loads of things and being Ms entertainer all the time (comparable to having hangover blues the day after a really good night out). It might help you to take some time during your happy, hyper episodes to chill out and be contemplative rather than rushing on and on as your energy levels and mood might encourage you to do.

Getting to know yourself and recognise what phase you're in and looking after yourself accordingly might help you.

I hope this helps,
Hilary

Yep. You're bipolar. Don't worry - about one person in 10 has the condition. It's treatable. The highs are great, and there's medication to stop the lows getting too low.

See your doctor.

i don kno abt u..altho i feel the same a lot of times too!! i think it may be emotional baggage tht holds us down and we have to be mentally open to the idea of not ebing depressed anymore..which becomes a habit..and it stops happening and more like we pretend along...so get a grip..smell the roses..and work thru ur emotional baggage...i doubt if there is any other way...just talk things out..don hold it in..and refuse to get stuck in the vicious circle of thinkin too much and then wht ifs and omg!!! just calmly stop..u will feel better..and go to a frnd and talk lighter stuff..ok?

Maybe you are bipolar or something. Check it out with a doctor.
But on the other hand, maybe you are just human and things shouldn't always be perfect.

It is not a "condition"- you're normal to all factors- good/bad- chill out - learn to take good with bad and help others.
