I know that most MP3 players available act as a removable disk drive. I don't know if iPod is the same on computers without Windows 2000 or XP. Can anyone help?

Ok, by the general answer I'm getting here, I need iTunes. So by that, I am officially screwed.
Does it matter if I have an iPod shuffle, or do all iPods need iTunes? (Another stupid question, I know, but I need to know.)

For anyone who's wondering why I'm screwed, I'm stuck on Windows ME (for another few months anyway), and I've got thousands of MP3's. So I can't get iTunes for my computer (because Apple aren't planning to release it onto Windows ME - are they?)

You do not need iTunes to work an iPod you can use the newer versions of Real player or a free programme called Ephpod. These both act like itunes but Real player has an on-line music shop too.The thing you must have is a computer though as iPods only work in this way.
I am now on my 3rd iPod and answer loads of questions on here about them, just email or IM me if you need some more help.

I just got my partner an iPod shuffle. You put the cd rom that comes with that into your computer and run that. Then you can put any cd's you have into the computer and rip them onto the i-pod. Alternatively I took the music I had on my mp3 player and phone - attached to computer and took them from phone and dragged onto ipod. Good Luck!

Stupid!!!! but I don't know this either, and that's why I haven't bought an ipod yet. Stupid me as well. What I understand from local gurus is: you can stuff as much of your own CDs on to your ipod as you like, but new music can only be purchased from itunes.
