Well Clarkson certainly liked the 159... For me, I always choose the better-equipped lesser model than the higher model that requires compromise. So that would put me in Audi's camp. In North America we don't have Alfas so I've yet to sit in one, but I have driven the A3 and I think it's everything great about Audi. I don't think there's a nicer or more comfortable car in it's size/class than the A3. Don't get me wrong. The 159 is effing gorgeous. And it certainly would be a unique vehicle. But I think we spend more time looking at the inside than we do the outside and that's where the Audi shines. Plus it's just so damned comfortable and ergonomic. Factor in you're getting a diesel as well with the low-end grunt and I think you've got a no-brainer. Audi A3.

As long as it fits physically and has the same kind of terminals as the battery cables on your Audi, yes. A battery that's physically too large for the space can rub against bolts and other hardware under the bonnet (happened to me once), and eventually develop a leak.
If the physical size of the diesel car's battery is very similar to that of the petrol car, go for it.

Simple answer yes if it fits because a diesel has a much higher compression ratio than petrol it needs a battery with a higher amp hour rating than petrol.Thats good they are all 12v so thats not a problem.

If you can find an exact fit, go for it.
It isn't advisable to use a larger or smaller battery than your car is designed to use. Any misfit to the battery holder can result in damage to the battery by vibration, and subsequent damage to the car from battery leakage.
If the battery terminals are not close to being in the same location, you may have problems with one or both leads not reaching or being too taut.

Batteries are not gas or diesel, they are simply batteries. As long as everything is standard voltage, there is no difference. The longest life battery you could pu in there is a deep cycle (golf cart) battery of the proper voltage. It has thicker plates wich through charging cycles deteriorate less quickly lasting at least a year longer, maybe two.

If it fits; of course! Theres` no `diesel` battery per se. Its` just a more powerfull deep cycle ( more $$$) battery. Its` allways good to have the best battery your budget will allow.

A diesel requires more cranking power, but as long as it fits in the bracket and the terminals match, they are both 12 volts
