THE TRUTH IS that we don’t completely understand why people, or animals for that matter, yawn. It’s widely assumed that yawning occurs because we are tired or bored or because we see someone else doing it, but there isn’t any hard evidence to support these beliefs.
The most plausible explanation, and the one that is taught in medical school, is that we yawn because oxygen levels in our lungs are low. Studies have shown that during normal, at-rest breathing, we don’t use anywhere near our lung capacity; for the most part, we just use the air sacs at the bottom of the lungs. If the air sacs, called alveoli, don’t get fresh air, they partially collapse and the lungs stiffen a bit. As a result, it’s believed, our brain prompts the body to either sigh or take a yawn to get more air into the lungs
also when we someone else yawn if someone else yawns, we are naturally competitive so if someone else is getting more oxygen, our body wants more.

No-one really knows the reason why we yawn. Some think it's lack of sleep, others getting air in lungs and brain, others think when you yawn the muscles that contract actually drain fluid from your spine and brain. This theory is based on the fact that psycho's and people in mental instituition rarely yawn. This draining of fluid is apparently clearing the brain of inpurities and psychological chemicals in the brain. So if you barely yawn, maybe it is a bad thing.

Are you getting any or enough fresh air, a walk out in the open will help to wake you up - wrap up warm. Go to bed earlier, but always get up at the same time. Exercise, maybe swimming, cycling or aerobics and gym. Are you getting enough iron from your food? Are you ill, cold, flu, virus? Could you be down and/or depressed? See your doctor if it continues, could also be thyroid. Just keep an eye on it or a diary and see doc. Could be time of year also. Pregnant?

The Chinese medical practicioner say 'Yawning' relieves tension and stress to internal organs of the body.
Also any one trained in Pharmacology can tell you by increasing dopamine to certain parts of the brain will elicit 'Yawning'!
There are some other reasons but I will not go into them here.

you may be suffering from anaemia, as your blood may be very thin, alternatively take iron tablets, and do not over work your self. some times its because you do not exercise, drink a lot of coffee which may also increase fatigue, yawning is a way of too much work that you do without noticing, even reading a book is a job.
try doing little exercises before going to bed, and concerntrate on your sleeps.

Eight hours is only a general guideline. Some need much more, and some much less. You may need a little more. You may not necessarily be yawning because you are tired.

I always understood this as the brain or body isn't getting enough oxygen and not lack of sleep.
Try exercising more often.
