My mother's birthday falls on the DIWALI day of 1948. Since diwali's exact date changes every year, can someone please let me know the exact date of diwali in the year 1948? or, can someone at least tell me how to find it out? and let me pre-empt the wise cracks, my mother lost her birth certificate, she does indeed know when she was born, although the exact date is not clear, and a calender wont help because where will i go for a calender of the year 1948, that marks the festival day of diwali? even my computer clock can show me 1948 calender, but it has no clue when diwali in that year was.....so help please.

I believe that Diwali always falls on Karthika 1 on the Hindu lunar calendar. If that is true, then this site http://emr.cs.iit.edu/home/reingold/calendar-book/tables/ tells me that in Gregorian year 1948 Karthika 1 was on Nov 2 1948 a Tuesday.

i comprehend why there's a lot confusion about dates. Diwali in South is widely known on "Chaudas"the 14th Day of the waning Moon. So this year it really is on 9th Nov. yet in North, East and West, it really is "Chhoti Diwali" 9th Nov. 2007 is important Diwali for relax of India. chuffed Diwali!
