Well, I cannot really form an opinion based on a couple of brief encounters, but i had an experience once, when staying with my baby son and wife in a hotel, not far from Davao, Philippines.

I was not impressed, we were in bed and around 3.30 early morning we were awoken by laughing, heavy footsteps up and down the stairs, shouting. . It got to the stage that I lost my temper, got up and opened the door. There were 3 taiwanese men (I found out later) bragging to each other about the whores they had just been...well you know. Standing there with beer in their hands, grinning like cheshire cats, I just looked and shouted at the top of my voice: "What the hell is going on here, we are trying to sleep"!
They looked at me said nothing except, solly, solly, solly...then went downstairs.(ha,ha..could not resist that one)
I tried to sleep again, wife moaning, baby screaming, so I went down to the bar for a drink! When I came down, those guys were standing there, waiting for their whores to come downstairs!
They saw me, with my angry look, and they all scarpered outside the hotel to wait for a taxi! I was no longer angry, but very tired. I never knew I could have that effect on people!

I hope all taiwanese men are not so respectless of others like them, ok, I am biased I hate prostitution and all for what it stands for, although I know it is the oldest business in the world!

But, I am sure like everywhere in the world there are good and bad people everywhere!

Ay ay, I'm half Taiwanese and I have to say, they are the best people on earth. They aren't like those mainland Chinese people who have strong communist ideas, they are more democratic and Americanized. But keep in mind that there are two different kinds of two very different types of Taiwanese. There's one group that are very rebellious and hopes to be united with China, the other group seeks Independence and democracy.

For those that say Taiwan's more progressive than China, you are wrong. Probably you've only seen the capital, Taipei, which is very modernized, and Kaohsiung, the Industrial city. But anywhere else looks very displeasing.

I don't know anyone from Taiwan, haven't studied the culture, and can barely find it on a map. So, I'm the typical dumb American and, of course, feel qualified to offer an opinion.

My opinion is that they seem like nice enough people. They want independence from China, which shows spirit and individualism. They seem industrious and commercially savvy. They seem more modern than Chinese. Overall, I'd give them a thumbs up.
