I think you may have these words confused. There is Emigration, which is the movement of people out of their country of birth. There is also Immigration, which is the movement of people into another country. You would say you were an emigrant if you were speaking to someone in the country you were leaving. You would say you were an immigrant if you were speaking to someone in the country you had just arrived in. The effects of emigration relate to the effects of losing population, while the effects of immigration relate to the effects of gaining population. In Australia, we have migrants from many overseas countries. They bring diversity to our country, enriching our culture with their different customs, foods, and clothing. They also provide us with skilled workers who may not be available from within the people who were born here. Emigration is caused by people wanting to find a better life, particularly for their children. They may be leaving behind great difficulties like poverty and unemployment, in the hope of finding greater opportunities in the country they are going to.
