A great social experiment that ended mainly due to faulty plumbing.
It has been claimed the roman empire came to an end through the madness of it's rulers. The madness can be explained. Lead-poisoning. They had their water delivered through lead pipes that in time messed up their brains. This lead to excessive partying, paranoia and, in the end, the demise of the empire.
