when you buy a matched pair of Tire's you should always put the new tires on to the front because the majority of braking is done through the front tires add more tread and you get greater traction and it is the same in steering your car as well the tires will hold the road longer in a heavy turn if the tread is thicker I don't know about you but I think if my car has to stop fast I want to be able to steer the car not slide out of control .

Generaly new tires are placed on the front of a vehicle. and the front tires are switched to the rear. That is because rear tires wear more evenly than front tires, so front tires will last longer in the rear position. The other reason, is the strongest tires are placed in the position that would cause the most trouble, if you had a tire failure. You really don't want a front tire to fail at high speed. The good news is that tire failure rarely happens at any position. I am really surprised at the punishment that thin wall of rubber and cords can take.

I've always been told to put them on the front when just replacing 2 tires. It is for better traction when turning.

Front tires get worn out quicker so front. Putting worn down ones would be silly. And ya you need traction when turning.

To properly rotate the new in with the old tires. One should go on the left front and the other on the right rear.
