my bf gave me one of his vehicles...its an '03 mustang...i had a car of my own...but i sold it because i didnt need it any more. it was just taking up space in our apartment parking lot. the mustang is still in his name...and we chose to keep it that way because he is a fireman and has specialized plates on it...plus cops dont pull over firemen...they work as a team (unless im like driving on the median) and i have a heavy foot and tend to go fast and cant really afford speeding tickets...now...if we were to ever break up and the car is still in his name, but is technically mine...am i out of a car?

What needs to be established is this. Is the car a gift from him to you? If it is then get that in writing and get it notorized. This will save trouble in the event of a break up. If you do break up and the car was a gift to you then it remains yours. You are only needed to provide the burden of proof that it was in fact a gift. If there has been no mutual agreement between you two that the car is a gift then the car remains his in the event of a breakup since he can prove it is his simply by providing the title (pinkslip).

Trust me...lol I'm fast becoming an expert on verbal agreements...lol Verbal Agreements don't mean much unless an uninterested party heard it as well and then it doesn't quite have the same meaning.
Best advice is to have him just sign the title over to you...then register it in your own name. That is the only was to assure the car is yours if you break up.
Yes...cops do cut them a break..but if you're driving the car and you don't look like the firefighter type you will get a ticket! Best advice there is the obvious of course...just don't speed...but an,"I love cops" or " I support the Police benevolent Society" sticker would help...

I don't know what the common law rules are where you live, but in some places, they are very similar to laws governing marriages. In a marriage, regardless of whose name is on what, everything is common property, cars, houses, everything. Only exceptions are what was brought into the marriage (if you can prove it) and that specificially excluded through mutual agrreement in writing. Find out what the common law rules are where you live.
BTW, who's paying the insurance and in whose name is it?
Worst case scenario, you get the free use of a car until the break-up. Not a bad deal.
You look familiar. ;)

I understand the position you're coming from, yet there is continually 2 facets to a tale (not saying it is a controversy) he might want to be giving loose rides because he feels shy to ask them for it or his acquaintances in basic terms haven't any money like he does. He also relies upon on you for gas money i wager because he's conventional with you are able to spare it? finally giving him the great aspect about the doubt he in all likelihood is searching for a job, yet can't locate one so he feels negative he's even bothering asking you for money (it really is how i'd experience). both way I say sure because you're contained in the relationship because you care about him and want to assist him. enable's say if he begins taking income of it that you and easily you are able to tell I recommend you provide him some tricky love.

You are out of a car...
However what you can do is the following...
You can go to public notary and have a shared ownership of the car with your boyfriend. This would mean that he would still own the car but he can't sell it without your permisson. Problem solved.

first of all its against the law for police to do what you say , they go to jail for special favors like your talking about, and loose there career maybe hes not a law abiding fireman , but most are, he should be reported and the police department as well and see what the Mayor in you city says about this when it gets to the news Chanel, and as far as i can see your a stripper and yes I would get in writing cause he has already shown you he is UN trust worthy and so are his police Buddy's

Yes! the car belongs to your boyfriend!!! why do women think that they can just take all their boyfriends property when they break up? Get a job and earn your own car you should be ashamed of yourself! I hope your boyfriend comes to your house and picks up his car today, that way his new girlfriend can have something to drive!. If his name is on the title you cant do a thing about it eather HA HA HA

definetely get something in writing ..and have him sign it and do it in front of a notary...because god forbid something happens..he is ONLY a boyfriend...now if you were married to him it would be totally different...but you have no rights as a girlfriend
and cops do pull over firemen if they are breaking the law....if you have no red light flashing saying you are going to an emergency...they can and will pull you over

In order for this gift (car) to be legally effective, the grantor (your boyfriend) must have intended to give the gift to the grantee (you). The gift must actually be delivered to and accepted by the grantee (you).
- The grantor (your boyfriend) of the gift must have a present intent to make a gift of the property to the grantee (you).
- The gift must be delivered to the grantee (you).
- The grantee (you) must accept the gift.

You should just give the car back now since you're planning on breaking up with him.
