Modern Games

1) Lost Cities -- It is still a card game, but not with a standard deck of cards. Players are explorers who have to make tough decisions as to whether to explore one of five expedition sites. If you decide to explore an area, you lay down cards in that expedition site, but beware -- you can only lay cards down in ascending order, and if your expedition doesn't reach at least 20 points, you will lose points in that expedition. Though the game is very simple, it is a lot of fun for two. Rio Grande Games.

2) Hive -- An abstracted game about bugs. Each player has a group of 11 bugs on hexagonal blocks -- 3 ants, 2 spiders, 3 grasshoppers, 2 beetles and 1 queen. The object of the game is to surround your opponent's queen, on all six sides. Each of the bug types have a specialized form of movement. It's a tense but enjoyable quick game for two.
Check out http://www.hivemania.com/ for a computerized demonstration.

3) Zertz -- an abstract game for two. The board is made up of black and white rings with 3 red rings mixed in. On a players turn, that player moves a ring or a stack he or she "controls" (a player controls a stack by having the topmost ring be of his or her color) The trick to movement is that a single ring moves one space, but a stack moves spaces equal to the number of rings in the stack. The key to the game is that the stacks and the rings on the board have to stay in connection with the red rings -- if you can't show a line of rings that connect back to a red ring, all the rings not connected are removed from the board. The winner is the player who controls the most rings in stacks at the end of the game.

These are just three of my favorite board games for two player. There are hundreds more great games that you have likely never heard of over at http://www.boardgamegeek.com

Just remember -- 500 new board games are made every year that aren't Monopoly, Scrabble, Sorry, or Uno.

Go Fish! You can play with 2+ people, doesn't matter. All you do is get pairs of matching numbers (two 2s, two 4s, etc). You go around the group or whatever and ask 'Do you have a *4*?' (** = any number you need to pair), and they have to give it to you if they do, and if they don't they say 'Go fish', and you take a card out of the pile. The person with the most pairs by the end of the game (when all the cars run out or when you decide to call quits), wins. Simple, easy game for however many people there are =) And there's cheat, or you can call it bu11sh!t (depends on if you use the term or not), or 'bull', whatever. It's somewhat boring with two people but it can be made to play for two people. You hand out the entire deck to you and everyone else playing, and you start at 2, and the point of the game is to be the first person with no cards in your hand, and in which case you cheat in the process. So for example, you're going back and forth/around and you have to put in a 4. You say 'two 4s', but it's really three 6s (my cousin said 'one 4' when she really had 5 cars slipped underneath each one, you can do that and hope you're not caught - funnily enough she wasn't). If someone calls 'cheat!' or 'bu11sh!t!' and you're lying, you pick up the deck of cards in the centre and keep going until you get sick of playing the game. Whoever has the least amount of cards when you're done wins. And Slapjack is a good game. You hand out half the deck to the other person (this is an easy 2 player game), and you flip a card and when you see a Jack face up, the first person to hit the table (or ground or whatever) wins, and passes the cards in their pile to the other person. If you both slap down at the same time, you put down 3 cards (face down!) and then you keep flipping out a card until you get a Jack, and whoever slaps down first hands their pile of cards to the other person. If it's a tie after the 3 cards thing, you just keep going with the 3 cards and show until someone wins and gets the pile. Whenever you feel like stopping (it's a never-ending game if you want it to be), whoever the has the least amount of cards wins.

well to give a good start off, video games would be the best option. infact they are very entertaining and highly suited for two players. if you want some action then HALO, DOOM, and so on.
if you are searching for adventure then metal gear, blood rayne, etc are suitable, and for entertainment or relaxation tony hawk pro skater, my all time fav will be good
