He might be religious. Facing the east so he can worship his turtle God.

RES do not always do this...but it maybe trying to get more light (do you have the proper lighting and dry doc). it may be keeping an eye on you (RES are very cautious). Is there a mirror in the direction it is facing it may see it's reflection and think there's another turtle near....there could be a number of senerios. Overall your turtle is not exhibiting any bad behavior.

I have never heard anything like that. Could it be he's keeping an eye out on something or listening to something? Sounds like he just feels more secure facing in one direction than the other.

Turtles have tons of personality, too. Maybe your RES is just quirky.

Box? You don't have it in a tank with water? You do know that RES are aquatic right?

I would have to agree with the others and he is either watching out for something or facing the light.

NO.

it is probably looking at something, or prefers to be in that direction. my RES usually stays around a certain area in the tank.

Is he facing your light? He is probably trying to get the best position to warm up. In the wild they bask with thier shell facing the sun to warm up quickly.

I've heard of this before but have not seen a good explaination of it.
