The best I can tell you is that Republicans are conservative in most every way and want things to stay the same, and democrats are liberal and want things to change. There are also independents such as the green party. But most people feel that they must be generalized as being either Republican or Democrat because none of the independent candidates ever win and those parties have no support.
I'm pretty sure I'm a democrat, by the way.

I Agree the GOP will lose more 15 Seats, I say 20 to 30 Seats in the House, LOL the Senate is not really like the House, One Race at a Time here, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, GOP will Definelity lose, MONTANA, MISSOURI, may go the Dems as well, NEW JERSEY and MARYLAND is in Dems hands it will stay that way.
Listen VIRGINIA and TENNESSEE both will be deciding factors, If the GOP Holds on those Races their Hold on to the Senate, but If it split or the DEMS win Both Races, the Senate like the House will be in Democratic Hands and If that happen CONGRESS as a whole will challenge the Bush Administration on every single Issue.
To prevent that let Nancy Pelosi be House Speaker, but at the Same Time, make sure George Allen stay in the Senate, and Harold Ford doesn't come in and Dick Cheney as Vice President comes in as the Deciding factor.
Democratic House, Republican Senate, this will drive the Bush Administration Nuts, okay Its Drive America Nuts.
Its makes Sense a Divided Nation, a Divided Congress, It Happened Right Around 9/11 why not Now, I prefer a Dysfunction Congress, then a Rubber Stamp, or I'm getting you for this Congress.

Compare to our own Labour vs. Conservative.
Does anyone really think there is a big difference between the life of an average person under one or the other? Same goes for the Republicans vs. Democrats.
Even Democrat Hillary Clinton has said she would keep US troops in Iraq, so don't expect a difference there.
Apart from the more Waspy, Fascist image for the Republicans, there really is not that much difference between the two parties, perhaps only the Religious Right (who tend to be Republicans) and who are against abortion and gay marriages, which is not enough to win or lose an election....but one never knows.

Traditionally speaking the democrats like to impose taxes and then use the government to help people. The Republicans traditionally speaking like to cut taxes and keep the size of government small and let people rely on themselves without government intereference.
However, these days neither party really stands for their core beliefs anymore. In the past, I'd say 10 years, congressmen get money from businesses, and the businesses pretty much tell them what to do. It's gotten so bad that some corporations have written laws favorable to them, put the on the congressmen's desk and they presented it to Congress.
Why Bush is worried about tomorrow is that, the Republicans and Democrats are very divided and have had problems reaching compromises. The Republicans with a majority in both houses of congress and a Republican president can pass any legislation they want. However tomorrow there is a very good chance the they Republicans will lose their majority in both houses, it will then be difficult to pass legislation without compromise.
I could really go on and on.

the democrats are certainly not liberals, or even leftists, at least by world standards. they're both right-wing parties at their core, with their main policies; the democrats are just more versatile and slightly less right-wing than the republicans.
i'd be just as upset if a democrat got in as i would be if a republican got in. it's all dependent really on who the better candidate is, who wants what's best for a america: and john mccain, representing the republicans, is someone republicans and democrats can both understand, and i'd like to see him win the election in 08. america's already voted bush in twice, if the only way they can see fit to amend this is by voting in hillary clinton then there's a big problem.
i'm english by the way

Supposedly Democrats are liberals who believe the government should intervene and can help with most problems such as poverty and racism.
Supposedly Republicans are conservative and believe in small government. People should try to solve their problems with little help from the government
Republicans are "hawks" who believe war is a viable solution to world problems and Democrats believe in diplomacy and war as a last resort.
At least that is the way I understand it.

So those have the knowledge on what went wrong out there should have the chance to solve it since it's their time to do it.

The white house is panicking only because there is now organisations that are arming themselves with video cameras that will make a record of the election and if there's any complaint from people of what they have experienced if they think they have been rooked out of their ballot.

well, republicans are Conservative, and democrats are liberal. republicans don't believe in same sex marriage, they are pro life, they support homeschooling, the list goes on...etc... whereas, democrats are the total opposite...they support same sex marriage and want to change the law stating that it is the same as a marriage between a man and a woman, they are pro choice, and they think that public school is the only way to educate youth...the list goes on...
the only difference i think we will see if a democrat is elected into office is they will bring the troops home and leave Iraq to fend for themselves, and stem cell research will progress...
