I was just thinking, congress has hundreds of members and the supreme court has 9 justices. So why is there just one president? Is it so things will get done faster? Is it relic from monarchy?

The President controls the executive branch so that there will be no conflicting decisions from different persons which could lead to anarchy.

It really isn't a monarchy because the idea is that all 3 branches have equal power. So, even though one guy might run the executive branch ultimately, the other two can always overrule him.

That is where they have the power to overrule a veto for example.

The problem is when any one party gets complete control as we have seen these past 6 years.
