Did anybody else see the picture of the Army (I think it was Army, sorry if it's not) guys holding the sign that read "Halp us jon cary, we're stuk hear in irak" (or something to that effect)? Seriously, I feel like I am trying to read that sign every time I come on to Yahoo Answers. I know some people are in a hurry and some people are learning English and may not be able to put whole phrases together, but for the other 96% of you out there, why doesn't anyone spell anything correctly anymore? There's even a spell checker right on the post page! I understand the perks of the slang crap (Y U B Hatin any 1) but seriously. Did everyone in here fail English? I know I am an old fart (23) who didn't get into the whole use-one-letter-to-abbreviate-a-three-letter-word movement, but still, come on.

I know the point of the sign, I just used it as an illustration of what I am talking about.

And of course, my only life skill is spell checking. That is how I can afford to have the internet to sit here and gripe about how people don't know how to spell........

Well said. It is a pity that the education system does not apply more importance to the preservation of the English language and how it should be spoken and spelled.

Most of the time I can ignore the spelling mistakes but it definitely does irritate me when the question is either a serious question, or when the person asking the question is making fun of someone else's ignorance. How can you prove how intelligent you are when you can't even spell let alone use spell check?

You do realize that the sign was ment as a joke.? Sen. Kerry made a really bad joke about doing good in school or you get stuck in Irac, (which was aimed at the president and NOT the military)

The sign was a jib at Kerry. That was why it was spelled wrong ON PURPOSSE.!

Oh, I so feel your pain. You've asked the question that I have been asking myself for weeks, but gotten no where with. In my defense, I can spell (but I did fail English). ;)

people are in a hurry but yet they also know other people will know what they mean if they take a whole 30 seconds shorter and use all letters to say what they are really trying to type!

The sign was a play on words... they wrote those words like that to mock what the politician said about them being "Stuck" in Iraq.
