Was life better in the 1800's or is life better today? Why?
Which century would you rather live in? Why?

Uhh, today, for sure! I would either still be dealing with slavery (early 1800's), the civil war (mid 1800's), or state regulated segregation (until the 1960's!). I personally believe in treating all people equally, so living in those times would be rather unpleasant for me.

Not to mention, no indoor plumbing!

I'd pick today with all it's problems over the problems they had back then any day!

Today. Higher life expectancy by 35 years, better medical treatment, and we are not a agricultural society anymore.

Although the 1800's were a time of a lot of change, we are also going through our own changes.

In the 1800's, they use to throw their bathroom waste in the streets. Cities had to stink. Horses vs vehicles, no credit to buy even necessities, and it took much longer to get anywhere.

I'd pick the 1800's if I got to pick where I lived. I'd much prefer Britain, where depending on what part of the century I lived in, I'd want to be part of the Romantic or the Aesthetic movements; if I was in the middle, forget literature, I'd be a Chartist fighting for equality.
