My 2 1/2 year old loves Thomas the Tank Engine - the wooden track set, with the trains. He plays with them non-stop. And what's so nice about it is you can set it up for him and then when he is done, it breaks down and fits in a bin. My son even sleeps with his little train. They come in all kinds of size sets. But you can buy all kinds of extras and build onto it in years to come. And it will last until they are older too. The little cars have magnets to hold them together. It's really the best investment we've ever made. There are also videos of Thomas and friends, sing alongs, books - all kinds of things to go along with it if he likes it. Good luck.

They have a new Teddy Ruckspin out, or another bear that is the same thing called TJ Berrytales. They are really popular and they are great for learning. It is a bear that you insert a CD into and it reads along to stories with you.

My son just turned 3 last week and he chose the Thomas the train Steam Engine train set. he plays with it most of the day. Easy for his age, the train stops at the station to be refilled and then off again.,,makes cool steam and sounds. Looks cool at night.

The hottest toy this year is TMX Elmo. It's creepy, and my son will never have one. Anything that allows them to play with it in a variety of ways is great. Wooden blocks, balls, age appropriate arts & crafts sets...It takes them longer to get bored with it if they can be creative with it.

I saw this toy in the Regis and Kelly show. It is like a drum set but you don't beat it, you play it by putting your hands over the pipes. They said that the Blue Men (group) made it. it is very interesting.
