It has been open season on Christian for a long time now and i am wondering why it is that people who advocate tolerance and acceptance of other religions can not also show tolerance and acceptance of Conservative Christians.

So why do you hate us so? Why is it OK with dems/libs to get Black churches and Black Preachers to do their bidding for them but not OK for us to do the same thing? What is it about the term "double standard" dems/libs don't understand?

Jessy Thank You for making my point for me so eloquently. Angry vindictive speech is defined by dems/libs as the main indicator of hate. You post is filled with anger and intolerance.

Thanks to all who replied. I am going to have to think real hard about whose answer is best. For now there is enough evidence in this very limited and unscientific survey to indicate my feeling that there is a lot of anymousity if not down right hatred of Conservative Christians. For those who disagree with us but who were respectful thanks for your kindness. For those filled with hate and anymousity I pray you all find peace in your hearts.

Beach Bum, I gave serious consideration to giving you the ten points because your answer was the most reasoned answer and was very diplomatic. I did not give you the ten points because you failed to address the double standard of Black people's long history of active participation in Democratic politics through the Black Churches. You obviously are capable of serious thought so you either overlooked it or chose to ignore it for whatever reason.

You are 100% right about there being so much hatred. I'm neither Republican or Democrat. Everyone has different ideas & we should be respectful of each other.I am a Christian & I never knew how many people hated me for that. On another note I think you answered 1 of my questions & I just wanted to apologize if I offended you in any way. I really am sorry

hi!
yeah I don't hate you or other Christians and I'm a liberal. I just don't dig others not showing tolerance. I can see why some people want to be Conservative and I don't think its bad. It's just that they seem not to like views that are different than there own.

Like with Gay marriage, if you guys don't like it you don't have to have a gay marriage. just let other people make their own decisions about there life style. American is not Church run its the government for every one and why should we care what the bible says. there are others living here.

And there is a lot of hate coming at me. In my town I put some posters up and they were all torn down. I worked hard on those posters and so did my friends. I'm not tearing down any posters of the Republican side. I thought it was one of my right to show free speech for things I believe in.

Don't play the poor conservative Christian card. believe in what you want and expect others not to agree with you, I sure do.

Guess I should start out by defining myself. I'm a Democrat, and a Christian. As a Christian, I work really hard to love my neighbor. As a human, I fail all the time. But I most certainly don't hate anyone for their religious beliefs. And that includes other Christians.

That said, I have a problem (meaning a difference of opinion--not hate) with many of the so-called Conservative Christians for several reasons:

1. They seem to be inconsistent in their theology. ie. They don't mind condemning abortion as the taking of a life, but don't seem to have a problem with capital punishment. You can't have this one both ways.
2. They seem to ignore the social aspects of the gospel. Love your neighbor, to me includes the immigrant, the poor, the homeless, the oppressed, and on and on.
3. They shoot their wounded. Just look now what's going to happen to that poor guy who got caught getting it on with a gay prostitute.

That's just for starters. And by the way, I don't think it's okay to get anyone to do my bidding. I want people to think for themselves--not to be like lemmings running off the nearest cliff for the sake of following some so-caled reigious leader.

If you care to investigate further, I reccommend checking out Sojourners. They're a great Christian fellowship with a social justice point of view.

I wish you the best.

Who will Conservative / Republican Christian leaders have us hating next week? Already this is people who prepare the excellent thing approximately Yoga. And Atheists ( who now and back look a lot greater compassionate then Christians immediately ) And all of us understand Cons choose us to hate all Muslims and every person that may no longer a Christian. and a few a techniques good Christians hate Jews to boot. so as a Christian who will Conservatives tell me to hate next week ? And in case you run out of non Christians to hate will you activate one yet another ? Will Mormons be bashing Catholics blatantly now . Will Evangelists initiate bashing Baptists ? and that i assume you will all be bashing the Jehovah Witness's. Cons as A Christian who loves Christ i'm bored with getting to hate . And in case you're saying those different religions hate us - nicely this is their situation and their hate to handle . i do no longer ought to proportion it with them or Christians

HATE is a mighty strong word, like rape. from my pov as a lifelong democrat, with positions ranging from somewhat conservative to somewhat liberal, one reason i have problems with the "religious right" or conservative christian is hypocricy. Ted Haggard, fer instance. now i really think that Mr. H is entitled to his massage or drugs or whatever else, as long as he plays by societys rules of leaving the kids alone and not violating the universal law of threes. BUUUUUUUUT, he is in a world of trouble and hurt, done to him by his own kind. Sorta like when the LAPD gets wacky- their job is to serve and protect, not get wild and crazy sometimes. So when reverend mr mega church book writin christian gets wacky, some of us think that mebbe he should be a little more forgiving of us and not ranting and raving about sinners, hell, etc... YES your point is made about some revs and churches doing the political thing- but it really swings both ways on that- all saints in pasadena is about to be killed because a rev made a rather innocent, but what the irs contends is absolutely political, remark. all I can tell you is that I really try to live by the two greatest commandments(and that pretty much is my religion), and that my best friend is the best example of a christian i have ever known. Jesus would be proud of her. The blessings of God to you.

I am a dem/lib/agnostic. I don't hate any groups... blacks, whites, Mexicans, Jews, conservative Christians, Hindus, etc. I accept and appreciate other beliefs and do not want to interfere with other peoples way of life as long as their way of life is not disruptive to my way of life. My political views actually are on the conservative side when it comes to economic issues, but I don't believe social behaviors have a place in legislation. When someones rights are violated, it is a Judicial issue, not a Legislative issue. I resent Conservative Christians, because I feel they are using the political system to force me to accept their beliefs and attitudes. I also resent the current administration, because they are doing a lot of things I disagree with in the name of these conservative values. I may not believe in a higher power, but I do feel strong conviction in my beliefs. I resent Conservative Christians who think I need saved and that I need to be converted, especially since my beliefs are a fundamental part of who I am. So to answer your question this open season that you are experiencing is a backlash from folks like me who don't like the way Conservative Christians are behaving and feel that Conservative Christions are interfering with our rights and beliefs.

I don't hate conservative Christians. One of the basis of this country is people wanted the freedom of religion. The separation of church and state. Further more god gave people the freedom of will. Why should I take that freedom of will and give it to my government? I know when the day comes and I meet my maker I want to be able to tell him that all the choices I have made where not because they were the law of the country but because I believed in his teachings and I made my choices because of him even though I had the freedom of will which he gave me.

Ok a couple things with your question:

I will argue with your 'open season' statement... the religious right CHOSE to get deeply involved in politics. With that comes opposition.

I agree that there is a growing negativity evolving around Christianity. I was raised a Christian even though I have Jewish ethnicity. I've been to more revivals and retreats than I can count and truly believe my value system evolves around my socialist beliefs of Jesus. (not trying to start a fight lol)

With that said, I have not been to church in about 4 years because here in the South, I got so turned off with the combination of politics and the church.

I truly believe what I call Bushians, Bush Christians, have dang near destroyed our reputation of a fair and equal religion.

Seriously, I want you to try something... I have done this. Stop and take deep breath, close your eyes and think of Jesus.. think of what you believe Jesus is and the feeling around that.

Now, and don't close your mind ok... stay with me... think about what we have done as a nation... even if you think Saddam was a threat somehow, were we right to go bomb them when they had no air force (before we sent troops in)? After all, those we wanted Saddam out and 1000s died from those bombs..

Have I lost you? Still there... seriously from a Christian view.... would a Christian do that? I swear I am not trying to attack you. I am trying to get you to understand how many of us that were raised Christian from the time we were born feel.

I consider myself both liberal and a Christian. I have no problems with Conservative Christians. My problems are with the Conservative radical right-wing Republican "Christians" who believe they know unequivocably how everyone should live their lives and try to shove those beliefs down everyone's throats. I believe in the right to choose, gay marriage and adoption, and a number of other things that I am constantly being told are not "Christian" beliefs. I also do not believe in trying to legislate morality. I am tolerant of the beliefs of Conservative Christians. What I cannot tolerate is the radical faction of that group trying to tell me and others how to live my life and that if I disagree with them, I am not a Christian and am going to burn in hell for all eternity and to codify all of this in our national, state, and local systems of laws and regulations. For example, I simply do not understand the stance that a child is better off being raised by married heterosexual parents who physically and/or verbally abuse each other and/or the child, than a child being raised by two loving, caring parents who happen to be of the same sex. However, if that is what you believe, I accept that and would not try to change your mind. Just don't try to change mine or force me into your idea of "moral" behavior with laws. For the record, I am heterosexual, but I try to behave as I think Christ would -- consider how he was criticized for the company he kept, loved and accepted when others did not.
