Listen to me, you got to do what's best for you and you're family. i have been in similar situation and have felt the same way. But to be honest with you: If you're boss was that nice, he/she would not have promised you a raise then turn around and gave it to somebody else. He/she is probably using you, because they know you need the job.
What i would do if i was you, is keep the job for now, while you look for another one, because you don't want to quit before you have a back up. that would be worse. Like i always say: Cheap pay is better than no pay at all. Go to monster.com and put your resume online and, you don't have to do any foot work except for when they call you for an enterview, and somebody will call if you keep applying. I got a lot of calls for different jobs using monster.com. Also got my job in less than 5 days.
I don't know how you're boss is i don't want to put them down, they should have never promised you something that they know they were not gonna fall through on and that's wrong nomatter how you look at it.

sorry it was so long. But i know how you feel.

Get crackin' and post that resume.

If your boss promised you a raise and gave it to someone else, then he is not really nice and it is the type of treatment you can expect in the future. Look for another job, and don't stay even if your boss agrees to match whatever you are offered. I have been in this position before and was offered a higher amount to stay than I would have gotten at my new job. I left anyway and eventually did much better. Don't forget, sometimes you have to take a step backwards to make progress.

It's great to have a place you enjoy working. Talk to your boss about advancement opportunities or a raise. If there is truly no room to advance, you should look for outside interviews while keeping your current job. You don't want to be stuck forever in a dead-end position, but you shouldn't burn your bridges either, especially since your current environment is pleasant. If you do find something else, your current boss will be likely to give you a good reference. Good luck.

Better to have a job than be unemployed, stay with what you've got until you've found something better - line up interviews and sign on with job agencies and don't quit until you know you have something else to go to. I had a job with bad pay that I left but then spent 3 months out of work, and then walked into a job that I hated.

I would not quit if I had no better alternative. Find a new job offer and then you can either ask for a raise or quit and go to the better paid job.

I would look for another job first and foremost. Once you find one, give your boss the choice between giving you a raise or losing you. Either way you still have something going for you.

Yes, I would only if the next job is available and pays better and the boss is not involved in office politics and employment games, conflict of interests, and fraudster.

if your epxerience is not quite enough and if you are not confident enough and has got enough exposure on the job... then do not quit. time will turn to you.
where as if your experience is good amount and if you are sure about that you are an expert in your job. look in for similar job with high pay and then think about quittting.
no before having another job in hand

I would quit because I need to know that I can trust the person I work for like they can trust me. Before you quit though, look for another job you can always tell perspective employers that you don't want them calling your current job because they don't know your looking. That's always seemed to work before.
