So the cars will sell. Its a marketing scheme. If someone is willing to pay extra money for a fast car the car manufacturer will make a car that goes fast. There are alot of other details involved but this is the biggest most agreed upon answer.

It may be illegal where you are but not on the German autobahns. There is no speed limit there.
The main attraction of fast cars is less their maximum speed than their fast acceleration, many succesful businessmen are control freaks. If the car doesn't let them overtake quickly enough or pull out from a stop sign fast enough they get frustrated.
Many also feel the car is also an extension of their personality, status and attractiveness to women. So car manufacturers play on man's primative need to assert himself to sell expensive cars.

Cars exist to get you from point A to point B fast. So I say, "the faster, the better".

But I think you're asking the wrong questions. You should be asking yourself, "Why are speed limits so slow it takes 20 minutes to drive 5 miles?" Speed limits are arbitrary. The only reason they exist is to line the pockets of politicians. Have you ever seen a cop drive the speed limit?

i think of with the aid of fact the final public of the individuals will purchase a rapid automobile. I mean, we like speed. yet, we gained't abuse it considering we've been given the police/sheriff/highway patrol after us. Now, if we bypass on a highway, according to risk then we are able to speed up. The ordinary area is that we are able to bypass at 50mph on the throughway; yet some bypass from 60-80mph. So it relies upon no count if there is highway police on sight. Returning to the undeniable fact that each and every physique is likely to purchase rapid vehicles, is by technique of highway racing. Now those people like the cost of a automobile. automobile businesses understand those particular each and every physique is prepared to purchase them. i think of with the aid of fact of this. a minimum of right here in CA (with the aid of fact it has a greater physically powerful inhabitants than maximum States). i'm no longer conscious of how different States/countries run this subject. notwithstanding, i'm confident in different uncrowded States you are able to bypass at 80mph or greater. in spite of if, i'm uncertain. good question. i'm hoping you get a better answer. i watch for analyzing your terrific answer. Peace!

Good question. I think the idea that a car can go over 120 appeals primarily to men-need for speed.
