Mental illness, when not organic (such as Schizophrenia) is a choice. A psych professor named Dr. P. Wann told me that long ago. I filed it away in my "druthers" file, but, after twenty years of psych-related careers, I finally agree with him. Cope with mental illness by understanding that, for whatever reason, your consciousness is creatively, and maybe geniusly, experimenting with alternative perceptions and ways of experiencing your life. All who wander are not lost.

I have and do. First of all I would look on the computer to read up on it. Don't get carried away though with all you read, that is easy to do. Before you know it you will think you have bigger problems then you really do have. Make an appointment with a therapist, just look in the phone book, choose one and pick up the phone and take care of business. From there go to your appointment and be honest. Maybe all you need is some good direction from him/her. If more is needed they will refer you to a Psychiatrist to go into depth and perhaps prescribe something if need be. Medicine will help you if you need it and continuing therapy will help guide you and help you to learn to cope so you can live a happier life! :) If you do not feel the therapist is of any help to you than I would choose another, this is common. This is a must. If you have one that is right for you, you will know it. Same as with the Doctor. People are people and we don't all click with one another all the time. Search and you will find. Have a nice day!

Deal with it. Accept it. At least now there has been a diagnosis and you want to find out if there are any cures or ways of coping with it. Get help. :-)
Start by doing research on the type of disorder that you have been diagnosed with. Search for good support groups with the same conditions.

First thing you need to do is educate yourself on your condition. Knowlegde really is power in this situation.
Then you need to talk to your family and close friends and make them aware of your condition, so that they will know what is going on and how to react if something happens to you.
And lsat but not least, find a support group in your area or on the net, if possible. Just talking to people who are going through the same thing as you will bring much relief.

Most people have something wrong with them. That's called being human. Ever hear of the saying, normal people worry me? Look, here's the thing... I'm not going to use anything any doctor says as a crutch. Just live your life and don't worry about the normal things.

You read all the material you can find on the subject so you can understand the condition. You read up on how people have been cured. How people have cured themselves even. You pay close attention on how the medications are affecting you. You tell your doctor if they aren't working. Hopefully your family will work with you in curing your disease. In time hopefully you can ween yourself off the medication and live a normal life. Understanding why you're sick is key.

This is a very good blog, a beginner’s guide to abnormal psychology.
Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in

I guess you just have to accept it, don't try to deny it, or ponder at what could have been otherwise... i mean how can you move on if you don't think you have to.
Just don't let it define you as a person. It is possible to arise from your mentality.
