You may not have too many options!
Your best bet is to wake up at 6am on "Black Sunday" the day after thanksgiving and hit the stores. Walmart is a good bet. But be prepared to fight for them! I've seen several stories on google about people getting assaulted over them, and one incident of someone pulling a gun on someone: over the right to buy an Elmo!

yeah on e-bay.. but they are WAY too expensive there. I dont think you will find any tmx elmo's for a normal prize before xmas.. Too bad.

I found one at wal mart yesterday. He was behind some stuff on the top shelf!!!
