Only if they are so poorly bound you can't really get the pages open. And then I only flatten them, never actually fold them in half.
Breaking the spine of a modern paperback is an invitation for the pages to start dropping out.

No, I've never folded my paperbacks. I always use one or two bookmarks to insert between the pages I stop reading. One simple reason, I don't want to disfigure any page of my books.

I am a bit anal when it comes to paperbacks - I can't stand it when the spine gets bent. Sometimes this leads to very uncomfortable reading, as I contort myself to try and read pages that I can't open too far.

It's one of the reasons why I am always reluctant to lend books (the other being that I don't get them back, of course! grrr!) - when I have done so in the past I am often appalled at the state they come back in.

Why would I?
Folding a great work of art is like folding someone's life; destroying that which they most need.
When you get to a certain page in the book, you'll see a huge dent in the story; when you get to a certain time in someone's life, you'll see a time of sorrow. It's as if someone folded the book that is their life.

Yes I do and I'll also admit to folding the corner of the page over to mark the place I've got to!

Do you mean fold them back until the spine breaks? If so, then no, I don't do that.

Do you mean fold down the corner of a page to mark my place? Guilty.

Of course.....I even carry them in my back pocket, the sweat makes the cover soft, I even fold the pages as a bookmark. Otherwise I would lose the bookmark!

No. I would either remember where I stopped or use whatever (book marks, bus tickets, receipts, even photos) to mark my pages. I'm even known to wrap my paperbacks in plastic bookwraps so they wouldnt be torn easily...Yeah, I know...I am a freak...Sorry! Hehehehe...

God NO!! I'm a writer (as yet unpublished) and if I ever saw anyone dog-earring the pages of one of my books or folding the spine or (God forbid) using it as a coaster, I fear I would have to smash their faces in...

Anyone who's interested, some of my stuff is in the blog section of www.myspace.com/blaarts

Cheers!
