i am not sure which state you live in, so i can't be specific. it is to avoid what is called a 'two-party' sale. it is just as iliegal for the clerk to sell you liquor knowing that it could be given to an underage person as it is to sell it directly to an underage person (yes, you can get fined for doing it). i think that checking all people in the vehicle is a little extreme, but it depends on store policy and strictness of the local poloce force.

To cover their butts & rightfully so. They want to be sure that you are not buying booze for people under age. GOOD FOR THEM!!!! Besides that way if one is a cop or from the LCC they will show they are responsible & following the laws....
