You need to find the common denominator. The numerator is the top number and the denominator is the bottom number. Find a number that you can divide both bottom numbers by. For example, if you have 1/3 and 4/6 , three and six will both divide into six. There are 2 threes in six, so you multiply the numerator, or the top number (1) by two, and change the denominator to six. Six goes into six once, so you multiply the numerator by one and the denomiator stays the same (6). You wind up with 2/6 and 4/6, which add up to 6/6, or the whole number 1.
Now, apply the explanation I just gave you and solve the problem yourself. Always do your own homework. That way, you'll learn the skills you need to get a job that pays more than minimum wage. Best wishes!

Either find the LDC of the fractions which would come out to be 5/2 of a mile or 1 1/4.
or take something that's familiar...
(3/4 of a dollar=75)
(1/2 of a dollar=50)
75cents + 50cents = 1.25
1.25 is the same as 1 1/4

1 and 1/4 mile-
question is why did she walk? trains on the blink? and what did she have for lunch?
also did she change directions after lunch or was she headed in the same direction the entire time? Was she travelling to somewhere special and if so did she make it on time?
