Brian lara for the west indies would be close he has the record for the most runs in one test, 400. but sachin tendalker from india is also a extraodinary batsman but than theres also sir garfield sobers of the old west indies team he was a great alrounder who hit six sixes in one over but he doesnt play today.

Its definitely Ponting. There are more but most of them are from the Australian team or others. Ponting got the ICC test player of the year and best batsmen.
