Fight Club, Imaginary Heroes, Amelie (it's in French so if you're not big on subtitles it might not be for you), Usual Suspects, Thank You For Smoking (one of the funniest movies i've seen in a while), and the first two Godfather movies are a must at some point.

Like Water for Chocolate. It's in spanish, so you have to read subtitles, but it's so worth it. What a great film!

Or.... Anything with Johnny Depp. Yum! Try What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Match Point was real good for suspense.

If you can deal with violence, try History of Violence - great movie.

If you want sophisticated humor - try The Royal Tannenbaums.

If you want silly humor try Wedding Crashers.

If you want horror you should see Alien 1.

If you want gangster try Goodfellas.

Foreign try City of God.

Foreign Romance try Like Water for Chocolate.

Independant try the Constant Gardener.
