You are told to select some product. Thereafter you are bombarded with daily offers of "free" lap tops, digital cameras etc. You can't claim cos you are not eligible by not being a US redident. You opt out of the emails but they continue for the next year. Can I take legal action to force these people to eihter stop the emails or give me what they are "offering"?

There is no legal action. Do not expect to ever get what they are offering - even if you ARE american. The free laptops*, tvs*, etc. require extensive participation with their 'sponsors', which will require any number of PAYING activities. Get a free spam filter, cut your losses, and move on. . .

Never use your real email address when signing up for these sites. If the site has a verification email sent, then make sure you have a junk email account for it. If I were you, I'd abandon the email you're using now and use that as your junk account and make a private one like at hotmail and give that to your friends and family. When you have to join sites to take quizzes, etc, then put in email addresses like idonthinksojoe@yahoo.us You know, make it up.

some websites suck. If you cant get rid of the junk e-mail you may have to get a new e-mail address. Sorry, consider it a lesson learned to read all the fine print on a website.

In america we have laws that allow you to tell them to stop sending e-mails. You should send them an e-mail telling them to stop. Get a new e-mail address or update your spam filter.
