Congrats on the decision to stop. I quit a year and a half ago after smoking for 17 years and this is how I did it:
I started out with 1 smoke every 30 minutes the first day, every 45 the next day, then every 60....I increased it by 15 minutes everyday until I was up to 16 hours between smokes. Yeah, it took a while, but by the time I got toward the end, I actually forgot to smoke sometimes. Also, I have convinced myself that it's not that I can never ever have another smoke for the rest of my life, but that I'm just choosing not to smoke right now. That way I don't panic at the word "never" and it kind of puts me in the driver's seat instead of the nicotine. Silly, yes, but it works for me. In fact, I did try a couple months ago to smoke one just to see if I had really kicked the habit. Yuck! I can honestly say I don't want to smoke anymore. Plus I smell it on other people and in their homes and cars and it STINKS!
You can do it!

I smoked for twenty years and I still remember the day I quit and never lit another one. Yes, you will have some withdrawl symptoms. Keep your hands busy with anything but a cigarette. I ate sunflower seeds and chewed gum. When I felt the urge to inhale, I took a deep breath. After a few minutes the craving will leave. Of course it will come back , but just keep taking your deep breaths. Now days they have the patch and other nicotine things to help you. I didn't have those, but I hear others have had success with some of those. Congratulations on wanting to quit. That is the first big step. You will be so glad you did. It doesn't take long to feel better after quitting. Good luck, you can do it!!

Go to www.chantix.com and read about the new quit smoking pill just came out on the market...Made by Pfizer corp..It is expensive like $170.00 1st month then about 165.00 after that.It blocks the receptors in the brain that rquires nicotine..I have some friends on it and they swear by it and have no desire to smoke and it's been over 30 days for 1 and over 60 for 2.. You must have a Dr. prescribe it and some insurance companies will pay for it..check it out Good Luck to you

Start smoking mindfully, with full awareness, focussing inwards, no multitasking while smoking, and fully relish every smoke.
When you smoke, only smoke; don't do anything else. Close your eyes and smoke in solitude, never in company.
As you master mindful smoking, the number of cigarettes you smoke will drastically reduce.
Then on an appropriate day just stop smoking; and in order to ensure you don't start again use some technique like Force Field Analysis or NLP which I have written about.
