I chose to do my historical research paper on Marva Collins. The reason I chose her was that an instructor I had last semester inspired me. Miss Pierre taught my Intro to Teaching class and she spoke highly of Marva Collins and her methods. Every time she talked about Collins, her voice was filled with joy and enthusiasm. Miss Pierre said she believed that Marva Collins was one of the greatest educators of all time. So I decided to do my own research to find out more about Mrs. Collins. I wanted to know how Marva Collins managed to shape and change the American education system.
Even though Marva Collins was raised in an era of segregation, discrimination would not be a strong enough force to hold her down. Marva would make her mark in the lives of thousands of Americans. Her father was instrumental in fostering a love of learning in her. Marva went to school and earned a college degree from Clark College. Immediately after receiving her degree, she began teaching.
