Varies by doctor, the type of delivery you had, wether you had an episiotomy or ripped,...........AND.... big factor to consider,..... if you will be breastfeeding, they need to think about the effect of any meds you take, as they will transfer through your milk, to your child.

After I gave birth for the first time the nurse kept asking me if I wanted something for the pain.. I was like what pain? Im not in pain...
I had a regular vaginal birth with some tearing..but as soon as the baby was out all the pain was gone.
Peeing afterwards really sucked.. that hurt..and sitting or standing for long periods did as well.
But nothing that I felt I needed pain medication for.

After i had my son (By C-section) while i was in the hospital they had me on a morphine pain pump but i asked them to stop giving it to me cause it made me "talk out of my head" so then they started giving me 2 percocet 5mg's every 4 hours and when i got out of the hospital they wrote me out lortab 7.5mg (60 of them)

Really it depends on the doctor cause my friend had a c-section and the doctor she went to gave her tylenol 3's and she had a c-section.
Then my sister had her baby vaginally and the doctor didn't give her nothing just motrin.
Most of the time it is like you have to ask for something for pain even though they know you just went through all that pain of having a baby.
Good luck

It depends on whether you have a vaginal delivery or C-section.It also varies from Dr. to Dr.
I had 4 natural births and only one gave me a pain pill. He gave me Motrin.
After a C-section, you will get something much stronger.

Chances are, if you deliver vaginally, you won't even need anything for pain. Maybe just a numbing spray if you need stitches.

They gave me Vicoden 5mg and a boat load of Motrin 800mg.

(The Motrin helped out MORE than the vicoden did. I think I threw the vicodens away)

If you get these, or hydrocodone, or lortabs (they are all the same basically) be SURE to eat because these lil suckers can make you sick at your stomach. And it's not fun to throw up after you've just had a baby.

They gave me 800mg of motrin and thats it. I have had 3 kids and I got stitches with all 3. They might give u somethin else if u ask for it, but really u dont neeed it. It can cause u to b sleepy and then u wont b alert enough to take care of your baby. I should no like i said I've had 3 of my own.
