Are you afraid when you wake up in the morning a terrorist is going to jump out of your oatmeal? Are you afraid of your neighbor? Should we spy on him? Is it better to spy than die? hahaha

Alex: Sorry guess I should have asked if you understood the definition of the word freedom.

2006-11-06 16:36:32 · update #2

Sorry Repubs I guess reading comprehension isn't your strong points.I would choose freedom over the risk of a terrorist attack and i would choose to live free even with the possible threat imposed by terrorist. I take it none of you guys studied American History? Ever hear of a man named Patrick Henry?

Pear again you seriously must have missed the point. Yes our men have died for freedom...Why should we surrender it in the name of safety?

Thanks coragryph, johnny and security..this was the scariest bunch of answers I have ever seen. Seemed for awhile either no one understood what freedom was or they flat didn't get the question....Now I see how Bush got elected.

Tantiemeg: I confess the question was purposely loaded but my comments were not meant to be mean spirited although I said many didn't understand the question that was simply stating a fact. those that understood the question and had a different point of view I guess you could say I was mean to say that they didn't understand the meaning of freedom but when there is a patriot act that is supported by Republicans which clearly takes away liberties to defend ourselves from terrorist it does seem a bit closed minded to say we haven't surrender any freedom. sorry though I meant to present a bias in my question I never intended to be mean spirited but civil liberties should be important to all Americans even Republicans.

Many prefer security to freedom, becuase they don't ever attempt to utilize their freedoms, so they don't realize when they have lost them.

I'm from New Hampshire, the "Live Free or Die" state. And I try to remind people that we only have those freedoms that we can defend. And we only have those rights we choose to fight for.

In honor of Pastor Martin Niemöller:

First they came for the 6th Amendment, but I hadn't been accused of a crime, so I didn't object to denial of counsel.

Then they came for the 4th Amendment, but I wasn't talking to anyone overseas, so they wouldn't be monitoring me.

Then they came for the rest of the 4th Amendment, but I only called my mother, so there was nothing suspicious in my phone records.

Then they came for the 1st Amendment, but I never associated with criminals, so I didn't worry about being convicted purely based on what other people might do.

Then they came for the 14th Amendment, but I never really understood the rules for Due Process (and wasn't allowed an attorney), so I didn't object.

Then they came for the rest of the 1st Amendment, but I never told anyone about what the government was doing, so again I remained silent.

Then they came for the 5th Amendment, ...... and I no longer had the right to remain silent.

Hello, I am a retired Police Officer here in the US and I can confirm to you that these types of records, for the most part, are not available to the general public. You won't be able to obtain them for free. That's the reality of it. Even if you came into the station for a particular police report to which you have a right to possess, you are often required to pay a small fee at the clerk's counter for the paperwork. There are however, to my knowledge, just a couple LEGITIMATE services that have full access to these types of records, and OFFICIAL approval/certification to provide them. The one which comes to mind is http://www.echeck.pcti-system.com - and if I recall correctly, They do provide these records at a relatively small cost.. especially considering the highly personal, confidential, or otherwise sensitive nature of the information within. Here you will find things such as:

Reverse Phone Search
Criminal Records
Inmate Records
Sex Offenders
DUI/DWI Records
Court Records
Arrest Records
Warrant Records
Police Records
Address History
Death Index
Marital Status
Relatives and Associates
Property Records
Felonies and Convictions
Alias and Date of Birth
Business Search

http://www.echeck.pcti-system.com

The only other way to obtain this type of information is to be working in certain areas of the public sector, such as Police work. Please do not use this any information you may discover for malicious purpose, as many States do provide criminal penalties under statutory law for certain acts regarding invasion of privacy. Hope this helps.

I'm not strictly Rep., but I feel very strongly about personal freedom, so I'll give it a whirl.

I find it extremely sad that all we seem to hear are voices of fear.
The world is not a friendly place, especially to those willing to take
a strong stand for the rights we have enjoyed for 200 years.

The forces of religious intolerance dealt us a pretty serious blow on 9/11, but that does not mean that we should enslave ourselves to our own government. The knee-jerk reaction of otherwise intelligent people in this country to blindly allow our
elected officials to curtail our freedoms in the name of security
not only scares the hell out of me, I am disgusted.

We must wrest control of our lives back from the Government and return it to its rightful role as our SERVANT. If we fail in doing so, we deserve neither freedom nor security.

it somewhat is called a distraction. Whip up a freanzy and drag it out so human beings do no longer pay interest to the actual matters. The war On Terror works extra suitable than maximum because of the fact human beings sense unamericain to no longer help it and don't communicate out as lots. a stable rule to flow via while paying interest to politics is that if the politicians are all conversing approximately it interior the media then it potential no longer something and is only there to distract you from matters like the terrible economic equipment and scarcity of healthcare and such. it somewhat is unhappy to declare yet these days a stable seize word gets you extra votes than an unquestionably plan to repair issues.

Obviously this means nothing to republicans who dont have a problem sending our troops to die in a war that has nothing to do with our freedom. And as Bush said this week " If we leave iraq the terrorist will take iraqs oil" This comment in of itself has given us our answer of why we die in iraq, and its not for freedom!

I'm no Republican but you have made a mistake asking such a question of Republicans. If they understood the meaning of freedom they wouldn't be Republicans would they? Those with true comprehension skills are not admitting that they voted for someone like Bush in the first place.

You are acting like we are living in a Big Brother dominated world (a la 1984). There is nothing to be afraid of. We haven't had a terrorist attack on US soil in five years, and even though airport security can be a real pain in the ***, it has been effective in keeping terrorists off airplanes.
To tell you the truth, I am not afraid to live freely. I just live life like it has before this whole war on terrorism started, with out fear and without worry.

It means we would rather fight than have our way of life threatened in any way. Our world changed after 9/11. It will never be as "free" as it was before. I am sure those who died at the World Trade Center did not think a terrorist would plunge out of the sky and wipe them out either.

Would YOU rather live than be free? Is there anything in your life worth dying for?

I hope you sort that out before it's too late, my dear. ; )

Edit: note how it resorts to name calling and elitism once it finds everyone does not fall in line (granted, it was a loaded question)...It started out silly and has gone downhill. Not even clever. Sad, because I give points for clever, even when I disagree with the perspective. ; )
