I would use a hack-saw to cut across ....I WOULD NOT try any electric or air tools for the simple fact of little melted ball of rubber pelting you in the face ...good luck

Wouldn't a box knife work? It must be fairly easy -- you hear of kids slashing tires all the time and getting down to the inner tube.

I assume you want this so you can maybe make a tire-planter-urn or something along those lines. I think the toughest part is getting the first hole in there -- after that, a saw, a knife or anything along those lines should work. Particularly if it's an old tire.

there are very few things that I have seen a sawsaz NOT be able to cut through and they are usually thick and heat treated. use a long blade, high speed, and light pressure. I would NOT recommend using a circular saw with a wood blade, but mount an abrasive disk in it and that would work in place of a grinder...

Buy a cut off blade for your Circular saw or find some one with a large band saw. I've done it before with a course bladed hack saw before but it takes a loooooong time..

Which way do you want to cut it? From one side to the other, or along the tread? If you are going to cut it from one side to the other,, you should be able to do it with a good hacksaw. Along the tread?... That won't be much fun.
