Do you have any of your paper work from the hospital? There should be a paper you signed giving the docs the ok to give you the epidural. That should tell you the risks and side effects. There is a chance of a small pinched or damaged nerve in the back from the needle. It is not very common since they use differant kind of needles now, differant shapes to get into the back with out causeing damage. But some times something can get pinched or just twecked from being pushed aside by the needle.

Try alternating heat and cold on the spot they gave you the shot. No more than 15 minutes each. The heat relaxes the muscles and the cold helps it shrink back into place. However if it keeps hurting you ask your doctor when you go in for your 6 week check up.
