Interesting question.. But I would have to vote no..
I think given the influence the Roman empire had and for that matter, the influence it still has, was perhaps the most powerful empire ever..
From a military stand point, It's military might has never been equaled in the sense of how much it dominated other cultures, empires, countries.. No one, not even the German war machine, has ever been able to control the enitre Mediterrean. The Us influence certainly is world wide, but there are enough checks and balances with other countries, like China and Russia, that it cannot dominate like Roman Legions usually did..
But beyond the war machine that was Rome, it's political, social, and to lesser degree, cultural (that which it stole often from the Greeks) influence also spread throughout Europe, the middle East, Western Asia and North Africa..
And Rome's engineering feats.. given the time and technology available, certainly outdoes America's.. The roads the built, like the Appian way are still good roads.. in America, the orange barrels are ever present because our roads decay quickly..

No, for the very simple reason that America is not an Empire. Oh sure, there are certainly Imperialistic tendancies, but one can hardly compare America to the English Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, or the Roman Empire.
As for the most powerful nation, it is certainly close to the top. The only thing that really still needs to be seen is how long it lasts. The Roman Empire lasted nearly 2000 years, America has lasted nearly 200. Once we get there (if we get there) then probably.

In some ways yes. For it's ability to project power worldwide, it's unparalleled in history. For it's sheer destructive potential (in nukes, for example), it's mighty and terrible without compare. For it's ability to spread it's culture, it surpasses even the Greeks. For it's mastery of economic hegemony, it's supreme.
However, there are ways that other empires were more powerful than the US. The Soviet empire had much more territory than the US. The Soviets were also better able to secure the support of it's allies than the US, which was less willing to dominate others. Almost all of the historical great empires lasted much longer before their domination were even brought into question. Finally, the symbolism and monuments, including ideologies and religions, used by several other empires seem to me at least more poignant and powerful and less internally divisive. Lastly, the Americans were as yet unable to topple a mighty enemy; the Soviets collapsed under their own weight and not to glorious invasion by the Americans.

us of a remains a cushty state. till eventually the first international warfare us of a became nonetheless weak improving from the revolution, problems with Indians, and with Mexico. in basic terms to remind you us of a did not go in warfare Vietnam or Iraq or Afghanistan, us of a became resolving a conflict and putting an end to a pair regimes, so it may't be compared to the roman empire or the different large pressure by heritage. The more effective more effective from the roman empire became the Mongolian empire less than Gingis Khan conquering quite a lot entire Asia and jap Europe, or Macedonian empire less than Alexander the total who conquered entire south Asia and parts of Africa in basic terms in 10 years. Now it really is what I call genuine capacity.

Hardly.
Rome was definitely greater. And the Commonwealth was handled better. The Christian Empire has lasted longer.
So no, America is not the most powerful Empire ever.

I would have to say no. To begin with, are we really an "empire"? According to Merriam-Webster, no. We do not have an emperor as chief of state and we have very few "soverign nations". (England has more than we do.)
