It is not about brand, it is what you get for your dollar.
First, you need to see the laptop that you want to buy! You need to see the screen to see if your eye likes it. If your eye does not like the screen, the rest does not matter!
Next compare prices for CPU speed, Dual core 64bit is good.
How big is the hard drive 100GB at 7200RPM is excellent
80GB at 7200RPM is OK
less than 80GB look for another computer.
1GB RAM is excellent, 512 - see if you can do better, 256 Trash it. Give the system 3 points if its WIN XP PRO or WIN Media
one point if XP Home.
Wireless ready is better than no wireless network.
DVD read/write + - R is better than DVD ROM or CD only.
AMD is usually cheaper than INTEL with better performance.
The newest Intel Dual core gives the best performance, if it also has 1GB RAM at the same price for AMD dual Core 64 bit..

Apple is awesome. I have have two pcs. One was my own design and very similar to alienware. It worked but was such a pain to deal with. I got a compaq three years after I built my computer and that thing was a piece of trash. I gutted it and the best thing I can think to do with it is use it as a paperweight or a hiding place for valuables. Then about a year ago I got my first apple. I got a macbook pro. This things is the best ever. It is just as good as any of the others when it comes to games. It is easy to use and if I ever have a problem, and I haven't had one, I can take it in to an apple shop and they will fix or give me advice for free. Go with apple.

well basically it depends on ur taste ur taste and ur budget. Right now best according to me is the Apple i-mac book. Its cost is also nominal and its performance is excellent. The best thing in it is that we can also use Windows XP with it which can be used alongside macintosh. Its also very safe while using internet as there r not many viruses that have been deviced for mac.
otherwise Sony vaio is really good choice if have no problem for money. Toshiba's sattelite models is cheap and gives good performance. otherwise if u have some money problem then Acer's has the best range of laptop's on offer which r real cheap!!!

if you got the money buy a
IBM or a SONY they have the best quailty and technology on it
if you need a high end computer
DELL is perfect and Gateway too.
if you just a computer
HP,emac, acer,Compaq are cheap and will do the job, but will not last you and the resale rate are pretty bad.

Video - Hewlet Packard
Small Business - Dell
