Ok... I'm in Qatar for a lil over 5 years now. Qatar is fast growing in terms of tourism and the business industry. It's almost trying to copy Dubai, only that they are not all that liberal when it comes to women (bimbo's) and alcohol. You can buy alcohol from the Syndicate if you have a permit, but it's quite expensive compared to the price at Duty Free. Speaking of which, you can buy alcohol on your way outta Doha, but not into. I think that could change soon. The women of Qatar are more open now compared to what it was 5 years ago. You now see lotsa women driving (this was a novelty about 5 years ago). There are loads of women from all walks of life and all nationalities here in Doha, depends wat you are.

It's safe as long as you don't get yourself into trouble. You'll always find the odd guy in a good car dropping his fone nbrs, if your walking by the road etc. but they won't touch ya or try anything with ya. That too has gotten less now with the nbr of female Cabin Crew Qatar Airways has recruited.

Now, Mashreq bank is also fast growing and is a good bank to work with, depending on the salary they are offering you. The house rents here have sky-rocketed and a decent 2 bedroom apartment (fully furnished) will cost you about QAR8000-10000 (USD2200-2800) per month. Depending on how ya wanna live, you can share accomodation with someone or have a paying guest etc.

All in all, it is an OK place if ya have nice friends and have something to do in your spare time.

My friend used to work there for 12 years.
She was a single mother who wants to provide for her son who she left with her mom.
The money was good, and the place was very safe. That country has money, but, no entertainments. no alcohol, no pork.(no beacon or pork chop).
There are many restrictions for woman to follow.
It's wonder of wonder how she managed to stay for so long, even with every vacation here.
It's very lonely and board.
If you like quite life, then you'll be alright, but, if you like have fun, it's not the place.
