Then I got: Make sure you have current drivers for your video card.

The Lord of the Rings(tm); Return of the King(tm) will now exit.

What is up with this error? Can anyone help me. I did download the Direct 3D thing from microsoft.com but it obviously didn't do anything.

First and easiest thing to try is downloading and installing the newest version of your video card's drivers. Check your Device Manager under "Display Adapters" for the model, then go to the manufacturer's website and find the appropriate driver.

I could give you more details if I knew the model of the card.

There are a few possibilities as to why your computer is doing this. Firstly check the specifications required for the screensaver, it may require a computer with an added graphics card such as an NVIDIA 8800GT etc. It may not be compatable with the on-board graphics chipset that your computer undoubtedly has installed in it (just like pretty much all 3d intensive games!). If your computer matches or exceeds the specifications required then you may need to either re-install your drivers or download updated ones. It's also a good idea to check & see if you are running the latest version of DirectX eg DX9 for XP based systems of DX10 for Vista!

You need a graphics card that is DirectX compatible. Check the requirements for the game, you'll need a graphics card that supports the minimum level of DirectX that the game supports, and find one with the same or more memory as the minimum requirements for the card. I'd recommend an nVidia card, something in the $75+ range would suit you fine if that's the only game that you want to play.

The problem is your video card drivers.

for NVIDIA http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

for ATI http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

There are new games that require a certain minimum hardware requirement. Be sure to check it before buying a game.
