Most people in our culture are taught at a very young age that nudity is wrong if not sinful, and one should cover his or her private assets when not in the privacy of his or her own shower or bathroom. This belief stems from the Puritanical religious beliefs on which this nation was built. Unfortunately, this early childhood conditioning often backfires later in life with such things as repressed sexuality, fear of intimacy, and most of all an uncomfortable feeling with being nude (even in the privacy of one's own home).
BTW, I'm typing this entry in the nude!
Cheers!

Jeff... you have a good start on it, but the beginning goes back about another 1,000 years. There was a guy named Augustin who was quite the rage in his younger years..... Then he found religion and turned 180 degrees, everything he enjoyed the first part of his life was now dis-tasteful. He weaseled his way into the christian church and got them to adopt his ideas as the teachings of the church. Some of the puritans got their beleifs directly from these teachings. So as a result, many here beleive that the body and anything sexual is bad. A priest told me once upon a time... the church's official first position on sex is... NEVER have sex!! Second position is... if you MUST have sex, do it in the confines of marriage, and then only for procreation. I'm sorry, my personal beleif is that God made us better than that... plain and simple!

I'm a 53 year old nudist and have been since I was about 10.
People associate nudity with sex,but the act of being nude is not sexual .It is the most relaxing way to be yourself.

Nudity can be beautiful in art, not when there is sex all over tv and ads...it's distasteful. When nudity is displayed to sell things such as a floor mop, it digusting..I am sick of seeing it all over, I am tired of the theory that sex and nudity sells. I am comfortable but not vain that I feel that I have to display myself..no one has any values or morals anymore.

Yeah however for a few cause Europeans say they're extra elegant then Americans? I see no magnificence in displaying your naked at the back of for all to look. Americans are a lot more legitimate in my view and Im a Canadian. Our nation does no longer approve of nude seashores as good

I think it has a lot to do with how we view 'sex' too. Most other countries are way more open about it....just look at their commercials and TV programs. When we stop thinking that sex is "dirty, bad or whatever" and open our minds to alternative ideas about sex (gay/ lesbian/ fetishes etc ) and have fun with it, or at least let others do so then we will be able to "let our inhibitions go" in a sense.
Personally, I love to walk naked in my house. It feels so free. Everyone should try it.

in this country...people don't do things in moderation...and cannot accept not being pigs/ gluttons. nudity is illegal because it is immoral in a civilized society to be naked in public and who knows...who might "jump someones bones" in public.
not that i would mind, i look good.

Are you referring to the US? If so, maybe because like two thirds of this country is obese and I certainly don't want to see fat naked.
