It's no easier to explain why women love jewelry than the explanation of why men love electronics, tools, or cars. It's just the way we are. It's beautiful, it adds a certain amount of style to an outfit, and we love to look pretty. It's also a great way to show off to our friends how wonderful our guy is when he bought it.

If you are set on buying your girl jewelry, and you are on a tight budget, try fashion jewelry. NOT costume jewelry, most women don't want fakes. Fashion jewelry is either plain metal (gold or silver) or a basic style with a stone, like a birthstone pendant, locket, etc... Most of it is around $100 or less, so you wouldn't have to spend much to get her something nice. You should know her well enough by now to know what she wears and likes. I suggest you stay away from rings and bracelets, and look at pendants and earrings instead. They are easier to wear, and you don't have to worry about getting the right size.

Besides jewelry stores, which have the highest prices, try alternate places to buy from. That way you could get more for your money. Look in discount stores that have a jewelry counter: TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross, Target, K Mart, Wal-Mart, or even better, eBay. And don't rule out pawn shops. It's illegal for them to buy and sell for the value of the stones, so all you pay for is the price of the metal. You can find an expensive piece for about 1/4 of the retail price.

Good luck!

As a woman who is not use to much money & doesn't own a lot of jewelry, it is nice to have something special picked out by my husband. That makes it special all by itself. If it were jewelry I would prefer a small diamond that is real to a fake diamond that is larger. Simple ring, earrings, bracelet, necklace. Walmart does have some nice pieces for $50.00, some less. If it were flowers then definitely have them delivered at work or school or wherever she is. Although sometimes flowers are just as much a jewelry. Just a little advise, when you are buying a ring, know the size before you get to the store, and it takes 6 to 8 weeks at walmart to get a ring sized. Asking her friend is not a good idea cause they can't keep a secret. You may have to return it after you give it to her to be sized. .A regular jewelry store can do it much faster. Sometimes they run specials that match walmart prices. Good Luck

Women love jewlery (or most of us do)..no explanation - just the way we were made darlin'.

You can buy a pretty silver or copper bangle for under $20.00 and most girls like those. For a little more you could get one engraved. There are pretty costume pieces - I'm NOT talking your local Dollar Store...I'm talking you can go into a department store ..even like Target and find nice costume jewlery for 10-20 in their cases. Ask them to help you select a piece.
The jewlery doesn't have to be expensive - especially IF you are only just started dating...it's merely a token, and if she is a lady with any heart and worth having?...She'll appreciate whatever you can afford to buy her.

Personally, and I sometimes feel like I'm the only girl out there who feels this way, I really don't think jewelry is that great. Everytime someone has given me something, a ring, necklace, whatever, I lose it or break it, and I've gotten some pretty nice jewelry. Maybe I'm just cursed. I'd rather get something cute and meaningful than just a piece of jewelry, not to say that jewelry can't be nice.

My boyfriend is Irish and for my birthday he got me a claddaugh ring, pretty inexpensive, 40 bucks, and I love it because his heritage is important to him and the message behind the ring is important to me, ha ha. Lockets are nice and you can get some really nice rings with precious stones for a decent price if you catch them on sale.

Good luck!

I'm actually not a big jewelry person and I hate cut flowers. I am weird though. I actually prefer a book or a really cheesy horror movie as a gift. I got an Xbox last year for Christmas.

The three pieces of jewelry my husband's gotten me our 13 years together, I treasure more for the thought than the actual piece. Maybe get a nice locket and have it engraved.

Having a new piece of jewelry is like having a new car. You get to show it off to everyone and brag about how expensive it was. Plus, women just like to look good, and one way to do it is to wear jewelry. If you're looking for something inexpensive but that still looks good, go for cheap rocks but real gold/silver. For example, rhinestones are dirt cheap, but they look good. However, gold and silver is hard to fake, and any imitation won't last forever like gold and silver, so for the metal, you should get the real deal. Get something with silver and rhinestone.

Its just something about having something shiny and new...Try sterling silver. A bracelet or nice necklace will be affordable and a nice gift. It will also be real so it won't turn you neck, wrist, or ear green! Some sterling silver has marcasite (spelling?) or diamond accents (MUCH cheaper than you think) in it, which makes it look even better and a bit more elegant. Good Luck!!
