Is it legal?

I'd like to buy about 24 (at $3.99 a dozen) and sell them each for a dollar. The profit will go towards a school club.

It would be sold during a school event. But is this legal? I need to know before undertaking such a task.

Absolutely legal - and a good idea if you can sell them.

It's called free enterprise.

However, if you try to sell bottled water to hurricane victims for $20 a quart - you may be crossing the line into profiteering.

Yes you can do this legally. There is not a shortage of breadsticks. The other person used a good example if there was a need of water during a hurricane and you were selling the bottles for $20.00 would be price gouging. But retailers have even gotten by with this calling it supply and demand. This is perfectly legal as to how much percentage you markup your breadsticks to make a profit.
