that is, other than for a serious injury that would disfigure your body.

if someone's just self concious, do you think they should invest in plastic surgery? or is it NEVER needed?

Sometimes it is....a friend of mine was having severe neck and back pain and needed a br. reduction. She wasn't just being self-conscious.

I think that can only be defined by someone's view of the word "necessary"...sure one could say that infants that are born with cleft lips should be able to get surgery so that they could be figured correctly, but will that give them less of a quality of life or keep them from being happy. I dont know. I think it is up to the child and what emphasis is placed on the disfigurement around them. I do believe/want every child to have a same chance at happiness in life but obviously that is just not realistic. If I had a baby with that issue, I would really be torn about what to do. And even though I would want to not give them plastic surgery becaus I know I would love them anyway, I know that all people are not like me and would not get to know my child for the person that they are and I know that would damage my child and I wouldnt want to put them through that hurt. But people just getting surgery to just change themselves to fit this "image" -one sided and sometimes inaccurate picture of beauty. I think its totally unnecessary.

Yes, it is sometimes necessary. I went to school with a girl who had a very nasally voice & often had trouble breathing. The condition was getting worse as she got older until she had non-elective plastic surgery on her nose to enable her to breathe correctly. I'm sure there are other cases in which plastic surgery would be necessary.
If someone's just self-conscious, that would be elective plastic surgery & it should be their decision whether to invest in it.

Yes there is a procedure that is necessary, it is called breast reduction. If a woman has too much weight on her chest for her frame to handle, it can damage the back and cause her great pain.

Right now I only think that reconstructive plastic surgery is necessary, but ask me again in 30 years and I may have a different opinion!

I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE, ULEESS IT'S UNDER THE STRICT PRETENSE THAT IT'S FOR A DISFIGURING INJURY.

PEEOPLE ARE ENTIRELY TOO HUNG UP ON THEIR LOOKS, AND BECAUSE OF THIS, IN MOST CASES, THEY JUDGE OTHERS BY THEIR LOOKS AS WELL.

WHEN WILL THE SUPERFICIAL MATERIALISTIC BEHAVIOR STOP? WHEN WILL WE JUST ACCEPT EACH OTHER AS WE ARE?

No..i think we have to look deeper inside each of us.....bad things can happen to good people...sometimes the most scarred people truly are blessed with other attributes
