I've tried everything except painting nasty-tasting stuff on my nails, because I don't know where to buy it. Any other suggestions on kickin' the habit?

Go ahead and get the nasty tasting stuff. I think Sally Hansen makes a version that's sold at most major drug stores. I've never needed to use it, but my younger brother did when he was a teenager, and boy did it work. Also, treat yourself to a manicure once your nails begin to resemble those of the non-biting population. Good for the psyche.

You can purchase "Don't Bite" At CVS or Walgreen's stores. However I don't recommend it, because it comes off on everything you eat with your fingers... Although it is highly effective... I used to bite my nails too. The key to kicking the habit for me was chewing gum, because I bit my nails simply to chew something... might not work for you but it's worth a try :)

It's a pretty expensive option but,

My sister-in law is the worst nail bitter ever, she stopped once she got acrylic/gel bonded nails. They are expensive and require up-keep, but it's difficult to chew on them since they are thick acrylic and it's kind off silly to chew off something that cost so much money, plus, they are very durable and look nice if you keep them a reasonable length and get a french manicure look.

Wish I had a better suggestion. Good-luck!

How about cutting them short? Or you could think of all the nasty germs you're getting into your mouth and into the skin on your fingers everytime you bite. XD

I heard that there are also medications. Something to do with a new anti-depressant.

Good one. I just quit. I can't even remember when I started biting my nails, and I have been trying to stop since I was 10. I finally stopped because I had all of my family, friends, and coworkers remind me not to bite my nails every time I put them near my mouth. It worked!!! I was suprised I had not thought of this before.

you comprehend what you will desire to do? supply up learning, flow out and detect a chemist (or drug shop...I dunno what they might call it on your usa), and detect a nail polish there particularly for nail biting. once you placed it on, it somewhat is sparkling and un-noticable. yet once you flow to chew your nails...BAM! The flavor is awful. It tastes like residing house paint mixed with banana. VERY DISGUSTING. you could basically flavor it however, no longer scent it, so do no longer difficulty appropriate to the fragrance making you unwell. That enables lots with nail biting. Use it until eventually you supply up completly, have faith me, it works. it somewhat is non poisonous, via how.

try keeping an elastic band around your wrist and snapping it everytime to think about biting your nails or catch yourself biting them. Also try chewing gum, if your mouth is occupied with chewing it's less likely that you'll bite your nails. Also, I think you can find that Anti-nailbiting polish in drug stores, or maybe you should try asking at Wal-Mart.
