To be the best waitress you can be, put yourself in the customer's shoes, and ask, "what would I want from this waitress?"
Make sure you smile, and respond to any requests which are made. Before the customer's beverage is empty, ask if they would like a refill. I don't like having to ask for more water. To me, the water glasses should always be at least half-full.
Make sure you know the menu well. Some people have allergies to certain foods, and knowing the ingredients in a dish is very important.
If a family comes in with a young child, offer them a booster seat or high chair, right away.
Make sure the check is on the table, as soon as possible, after you ask if they would like anything else and they indicate they are finished.

Sounds like you got a lot of the general advice, what I'm going to share is something that a VERY good waitress taught me. Never go anywhere empty handed. When you are walking out from the kitchen - if you aren't dropping food, take water/coffee. When you are going back from the kitchen, clear tables as you go (people don't like sitting with dirty dishes all around.) Do the best you can - people will catch on that you are trying and that you CARE - that makes a world of difference.
You already care enough to ask - that shows a lot about you. You will be fine!!!
Best of luck!!

Being a waitress sometimes takes a lot of patience in you. You may encounter nice paople or a demanding one, or as ***** as they can be. Well, just be yourself, know your job first and foremost (of course how would you become as effective as you are if you don't know your job, don't know your menus, etc.), and you must have the patience and must have the ability to deal with people. They say, smile is the best shield. Smile makes you look as pleasant as you are, and that makes your customer like you. Polite is one attitude you should have also.

Be friendly, polite...and I suggest taking a food management course offered through your state. It will help you know the different health codes and different violations. By you being careful on how you serve a customer will help you in the long run.

THE MAIN THING IS TO HEAR WHAT THE PRESON IS SAYING TO YOU, WITH OUT DISTRACTTION OF ANY KIND.
HEAR WHAT THERE SAYING.. THIS WILL LEAD TO A GOOD TIP.... I HATE FOR A PERSON NOT TO GET WHAT I WANT..
I PAY FOR WHAT I ORDER, NO LESS...
