is it illegal to just be dumpped in the ocean? Can't you just pick whatever you want to do with your body? I want to be dumpped into the ocean. I want to no cost for my burial and no funeral. I just want to be productive as fish food. And I don't want to give my body to science. It won't make a difference.

Due to the many laws that govern burial at sea, ashes have to be buried at least 3 miles out and uncremated remains need to be carried even farther out. Government papers need to be arranged by the ship (nothing can be placed in the ocean without government permission), and the ship also needs to be paid, so it's seldom free (except in the case where veterans benefits contribute)

Yes, it is illegal unless you have secured the necessary permits from the EPA. In order to be buried at sea, you must follow accorrdance with Maritime Law and be a specific number of nautical miles from shore, be in a weighted casket and have holes drilled in the casket. This is probably the most expensive form of dispostion. Burial and cremation are much, much cheaper than this would cost.

That is not legal in most places because it is not proper disposal of a body. If you are serious about this then I would check with the local law enforcement to see what is legal and mabe even the local funeral homes and morgue ask questions it cant hurt. Depends on which spot you want to be places at and what that water is or isnt used for.

I don't think you can. I know it is illegal to dump ashes in the ocean but you can do that without getting caught. Now a body turning up weeks later is harder to explain.

Cremation is relatively inexpensive. see: http://lacremation.com/index.cgi

You can get a cremation with a scattering of ashes from a boat during the weekend for $1345. If the scattering is unwitnessed, it'll only cost $795 total.

I don't think it would be nice to be dumped in the ocean. It seems gross.
