What is this word?

Question

Their is a word for the idea of life being brought to earth on a meteor in the form of bacteria or something...What is the name of this? And for people that know alot about it, how does the bacteria appear in space?

Panspermia - theory of origin of life, a theory of biogenetics that states that the universe is full of spores that germinate when they find a favorable environment.

When Scientists found terrestrial (Earth borne) microbes living on the exterior of Mars and Moon probes as well as on satellites, it was realized that life could survive the hostile trips through space and that panspermia was quite possible. We may have already accelerated the process on Mars with the Viking landers. Today Space Agencies spend a great deal of effort to not unintentionally deliver contaminates into space. As far as how it would appear is speculation, probably totally invisible, but be assured it wouldn't be like in the first 1980's episode of Creep Show! As to it's origins, we don't know. Scientists are discovering pockets of interest throughout the solar system where the conditions are just right for life.

Panspermia is the hypothesis that the seeds of life are ubiquitous in the Universe, that they may have delivered life to Earth, and that they may deliver or have delivered life to other habitable bodies; also the process of such delivery.

Exogenesis is a related, but less radical, hypothesis that simply proposes that life did not originate on Earth, but was transferred to Earth from elsewhere in the Universe, with no prediction about how widespread life is. The term "panspermia" is more well-known, however, and tends to be used in reference to what would properly be called exogenesis, too.
